GREYMOUTH, This Day. .Regarding the conference at Paparoa yesterday, Mr Semple paid a tribute to the work ot the Conciliation Commissioner, The miners -cordially approve of tlie Commissioser’s suggestions for. a settlement, and admits it was not a legal victimisation, but a victimisation in the true sense, and principle was at stake. A man is the keeper of his own body and tlie miner went holmbecause he was sick. The mine manager wished to usurp a doctor’s duty and say the miner was not ill. The mine officials admit they had no complaint against the miner which was previously good, aud tlie workman obeyed orders promptly. Mr Semple says the State mines settlement is at hand. KILLED IN ACTION. BRTGADIER-GENERAL FULTON & COLONEL O. R. PURDY. WELLINGTON,' April 4. Cabled advice has been received that Brigadier-General A. T. Fulton, commanding the 3rd Now Zealand Brigade, lias been killed in action. On the outbreak of tlie war. Major Fulton proceeded with the Expeditionary Force to Samoa is command of a composite half-battalion, and on return was given command of the Ist and 2nd Battalions of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, proceeding to. Egypt, where he saw considerable service. On arrival of the 3rd and 4tli Battalions, he was rrivon command of the Rifle Brigade and on March Ist, 1.915, was promoted to be [Br igaiJidr-G eiiofol. He proceeded to France as Brigade-Commander with the New Zealand Division in 1916, serving with it almost continuously till the tunc of his death.

News has also been received that Major Roliert Gleadow Purdv, eldest sou of Colopel C. R. Purdv, director of the Medical Services at Wellington, was killed in action. He left the Dominion as Adjutant, seeing service in Egypt. He went with the Brigade to France, subsequently being appointed BrigadeMajor. He early received the Military Cross and later a bar.

C German, interned at Motuihi, has been in the • Auckland Hospital since February 11th, suffering' from a fractured jaw, allegedly inflicted by a compatriot who is also interned I will he remembered that at the official enquiry into the escape of the Germans evidence was given regarding a note of warning left for the authorities. As far as is ascertainable, this mysterious epistle created an ill-feeling among some of the prisoners who were concerned about its authorship. It is understood that one German, formerly a residen of Samoa, formed suspicions against an ex-Aucklander sharing captivity. He attacked the latter i,n( * broke the latter’s jaw. YOUTHFU L BURGLARS. TAUMARUNUI April 4. Constable Garvey made a smart arrest to-day. pf two brothers, named Winsor wanted for burglary of boots at Auckland. The two youths were attempting to soil boots here. The constable met them in* the street, wearing n c w boots and carrying parcels of hoots. After the arrest the prisoners’ swags at the railway were examined, and a stock of new boots discovered. The accused will come before the court to-morrow, •
