[ In contrast with that of the opening | day, the weather was cold and wet for the conclusion of the Wanganui meeting.^ Considering' the unsatisfactory conditions, the attendance was good, but the tote figures again declined. As the field raced up the back stretch Peter Maxwell and Veil were well clear of Demand, with Scotch Mixture, Martian Miss and Diamond Ring following. l<rom here Diamond Ring moved forward, and, taking the lead three furlongs from the post, drew out to win easily from Scotch Mixture, with £ Umr PtloUS a £ood third, just in front of Marqueteur. Master Beckwith (£1125) had a biofollowing for the Farewell Hack Handicap with Ruby Ring (£930) and Puke. toi (4/15) the best supported of the other starters. From an indifferent start Lucrative began well and led Puketoi, R. u b y Bins, and Muster Beckwith to the home turn. In the run to the_ post Ruby Ring drew out, to win decisively from Puketoi, with Lucrative a good third.

sonta moved in line. Then Orchid went out to open up a big break on Soliform, Lady Fingers, Mireusonta, and Hipo. Orchid tired in the run home, and Avola, coming with a fine run,. got up to beat Orchid by half a length, with Rational and Hipo very close up.
