Mobs of sufferers by losses by fire who are demanding that the Govern»ent force the insurance companies to pay one-tenth of the earthquake losses, spent » night in the grounds «t the residence of the Minister of Finance, demanding that he should pledge the -Treasury for an advance of an eighty million loan to the insurance companies at 3* per cent, interest. The Minister was obdurate, «nd it is reported that he quarrelled with his colleagues in & Cabinet meeting, over the impossibility of such interest. Insurance gatherings are held throughout the city and heated speeches are made, so that, the mobs am threatening to get out of hand.and proceed to direct action.
