PAYMENT OF SUBSIDIES,
(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. The burning subject witn Education! Boaa-ds has been the reduction of the Government subsidy payable upon voluntary contributions from £ for £ to 10s in the £. The Hon. C. J. Pair, Minister for Education, told a conference of chairmen and secretaries of Education Boards to-da^' that subject to certain limitations he would be agreeable to the restoring of the £ for £ subsidy. Tlie redaction had been made on the recommendation of the Economies Commission, and the result was that £2250 in subsidies was withheld. Times had improved, and he was going to give themj back that sum. It was also decided to recommend that the committees receive £ fo,r £ on voluntary contributions made prior to the making of the' regulations.
