MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
Interest does not seem to wane in . connection with the. State School Queen Carnival. At present the>~ country candidate has a small lead. over the Maori queen. The'town queen is third. On Wednesday night a very good dance was held in the OddfellojWß* Hall m aid of the Maori queen,^andL there was a very large attendance, and a t splendid evening's enjoyment eventuated. During the evening songswere sung by Messrs Katene and Elkington, and the music was supnlied by Messrs C. Abbott, A. Elkington an* Mrs W. T. Wells. A splendid supper was /provided, and a very enjoyable evening came to a. close in the wee hours of the morn. I- would like it. made clear that the "I" competition, which is "published in the Star in tonight's issue, that each answer is thename of a town in New Zealand." Porinstance, take No. 1, "Westport,'» or No. 17, Auckland. The circulars forthis competition have been sent out among the South Taranaki schools. There is not the slightest doubt that, this competition will be a great suc-r cess. The ladies' country committeeare having a tea and luncheon stall in aid of the country queen on Tues-i----day next at the Farmers' Co-op.y where* luncheon will be provided for Is, school children 6d. There will be a large assortmentof 'pastry for sale. No doujbb their efforts will "be well rewarded.
