After a time he was de--tached, and went to HeadquartersStaff, later rejoining his. regiment in • France, where he was badly gassed. He is survived by a widow and infanfcchild. for whom the deepest sympathy will be felt. The. death was announced from New York recently of Rear-Admiral Charles .. Dwight Sigsbee. Admiral Sigsbee will ' perhaps be chiefly remembered as hay- -' ing commanded the U.S.B. Maine from April 10, 1897, until she'was blown up * and destroyed in Havana,harbour in February, 1898. He was an" able offi- V cer, who introduced' numerous inventions and hew methods in deep-sea, exploration, on which he wrote a book. After the Spanish-American T?ar W* was nominated by the! President for "extraordinary heroism." : Later W~ commanded successively the South Atlantic Sauadron and the Second Divi--i won of the North Atlantic Fleet, and. retired in 1907.
