A SLIGHT DECREASE

The montlily abstract" of statistics for last month shows that the index number for the three food groups as at June 15 was 1521. a decrease'of 4, points as com paired with that for the I previous month (1525), and an increase- of 42.15 per cent, over that for . July, 1914. The index number for the groceries group has risen 27 points, j tiue mainly to an increase in most towns j in the pnco of potatoes. A consider- • able dcrease in the p,riee of eggs in ail ' towns has been the pause of the fall of '• 41 points in the dairy products group. A fall of 14 pointsl has been recorded in ! the- meat, group. Decreases in thei j prices of beef joints in several towns ' has been the main cause of this fall, j The latest available figures' for the ' principal countries publishing statistics of -retail ptrioes of food are as shovvoj in the following table: —
