Thursday was a red letter evening in Auroit, loi' tiieii Cue coiiiiinttee oi me i'armors' Union iieiu tne.r annual bail, wnicii proveu sucn <i success as shoiutl sacisiy tile most exa^tm^. Uiiuer tneir eutimsiasLic; nix-sitiejit {Axv. \\. i<.

L-ynuon; iind u.e.i- ener&eLc" secieiary (i»ir. J. L. Uail), conixiiitcees —men s ana ladies —ima been actively working tor days in making preparations tor the great fixture, anu tne success achieved ma:^ more man repay tnem for their etfoi'ls.

Tiie hall was very strikingly decorat- ' ed .with streamers (JMue, rev, and yellow), balloons and greenery, and presented a most artistic eirect, which, added to the pretty drosses of tne ladies, made such a scene as has not previously been seen in tne Auroa hall, i The supper _ arrangements were most complete. The supper room had two long tables ranged down each side, ■ seating about sixty, and these Mere artistically set out by a ladies' commitj tee iv a colour, scheme of yellow and ' blue, while the wealth of greenery round the walls lent a fitting contrast and made the room very attractive. ' The tables were laid with a sumptuous ' supper, which included poultry, joints, ! and sweets enough to tempt the most, fastidious appetite. In the hall was such a crowd, estimated at over 250, that four relays had to be worked to accommodate all present. Visitors were present from Hawera, Kaponga, Elth- < am, Stratford, and other parts of the province. The M.'sC. were six in number—Messrs lioss, Deegan, J. and H. Hartley, C. Voullaire, and Armstrong— 1 and they were unremitting iv their efforts for the comfort and pleasure of the large number present. This taxed : the hall to the very utmost; indeed, a ! much larger hall will be needed if more ' such functions are held. As it was, i a marquee had to be added at the side to accommodate some of the supper ar- \ rangements. The floor was in capital ' order and very excellent music was provided by Ken wick's orchestra of five instruments. These two features made ' I dancing us pleasurable as could be , ] wished. Extras were played by Mrs I Bradley, Misses 11. McCarty, "Evans", Oalder, and Messrs Power and Poole'. } During the evening a very pretty exI hibition of fancy dancing was given by I Miss Eiley. of Hawera, which was much ; appreciated by all present.

The takings at the doors were just £30, which the commitete considered very satisfactory. All concerned in the function are entitled to the highest credit for the great siiccess they secured. The evening was one ' that Auroa people will long remember.
