. —4 RETIRING COMMISSIONER. I (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, June 9. The lately retiring Public Service Commissioner, Mr. \v\ R. Morris, was yesterday met by the administrative heads of the Government Departments in the old Cabinet room of Government Buildings and presented with. a very fine Queen Mary crystal suite and a suitably engraved salver, as a token.of , their esteem. ** The presentation was made by Mr. Esson, secretary to the Treasury, -who expressed the great regret felt by the j administrative officers at the severance of the bond of a highly valued association. j . The Solicitor-General (Mr. McGregor) and Dr, Valentine endorsed the. sentiments expressed by Mr. Esson. Replying, Mr. Morris returned the deepest thanks for the presentation and spoke of the happy recollections he hod of over half a. century's association with State employees. As the result of his experience he had no hesitation jti expressing the highest opinion of the very capable manner in which the different departments were managed by the respective heads.. We had reason ; to be proud. of the calibre and standing of the heads of our public service and of the service generally. Those controlling our affairs had an honest desire to-run the Departments as economcially as possible. Occasion was taken to offer a Avarin welcome to Mr. Verschaffelt, the new Commissioner, and assure him of hearty ''~ co-operation of the heads of depart- " j ments.
