I NEW PLYMOUTH v. HAWERA. I ■ j ' The Hawera team journeyed to New Plymouth on Saturday "to fulfil an engagement in the Julian Cup competition, and gathered the two points by , defeating the locals by four goals to one. An enjoyable game was marred through Johnstone, New Plymouth's goalkeeper, getting his ankle fractured, j and all followers of the game will join \in wishing him a speedy recovery. It f is only fair to say that New Plymouth j were not at full strength, and had to " nnd substitutes at the last minute to make up the team; but Hawera de- ! served their win, and It should be an • incentive to New Plymouth to get their best team, together to send to Hawera for the return znatch. New Plymouth . has previously turned out a really good side, and if they will only travel they should be able to avenge' their defeat when they come to Hawera. The Hawera team was: Hart; Pullen Beare; Maxtead, Pooch, and Barker; Kamsay, Magnusson, Brown, Newman, and Davis senr. Pooch won the. toss and New Plymouth kicked off, playing uphill. After ! mid-held play Pullen sent up to Brown I Shepheard relieved, and after Hart had I Ueared, Hawera came again and gave I Johnstone a busy time, Magnusson put- I I *"Jg Hawera one up. Hawera's goalkeeper then went into the New Plymouth goal and I the veteran Tommy Machin took his place in Hawera's goal Half-time came with no further score. Hawera pressed from the re-start and after ten minutes' play, Brown added to the total. Hart brought off some good work for New Plymouth. On« save from a miskick by a New .Plymouth back was a brilliant piece of work, m which Hart went full length and just managed to turn the ball round the post for a corner kick New Plymouth were still triers, and Worthington, who was playing his usual solid gam© got one past Tom that gave him no chance.
