THE 'VARSITY TOUR.
SYDNEY, May 20. The Rugby match between the New ; Zealand and Sydney University teams ' resulted in a draw, eleven all. This
was th« first test game. The teams ; lacked combination, and at times play was patchy, with, a tendency towards sluggishness. Sydney opened the scoring, Hesslein landing a penalty trom inside' the visitors' twenty-five. A rush by the threequarter line ended in Stanley crossing and Hesslein added a goal? Sydney won most of the scrums, and as a consequence New Zealand were called upon jto perform much defensive work. A j free kick for an illegal tackle gave . Diack an opportunity, which he accepted. A smart effort by Murray and McDonald took play down field' and the latter crossed, Diack kicking a goal and equalising the scores. The second spell was devoid of incident, being mostly give and take play. Sheehan being off-side gave Diack a further opportunity, and New Zealand led 11 to 8. In the last five minutes, however, Foote scored for New South . Wales, but the kick at goal failed. I
