MANY SHIPBUILDERS IDLE.

It is officially stated that barely 25 per cent of the workers in the shipbuilding and engineering allied trades are employed in Glasgow, where the unemployed total 84,480, of whom 71,670 are men. It is estimated it will be necessary to distribute £1,000,000 in poor law relief in Glasgow during the winter. Lancashire mills, owing to the depression in the cotton industry, will continue to close on Saturdays and Mondays until the end of xVbvember.
