Retailers' >' Association'heid^iast''-'evening there was considerable discussion on the quesi tion of the recent" valuation of the borough and a resolution was passed, to .be sent to the Borough Council, as follows: "That owing to the heavy increase in the valuation of the borough this .association respectfully urges upon the Borough -Council the need for , the exercise of the greatest care 1 in the striking of the general rate for the current period, so that no undue 1 burden shall be placed upon the ratepayers."- . • . ' | The following resolution, to be for- . warded to the Prime Minister and the I member for the district, was also passed: "That in view of the fact that ■ the figures of the recent valuation of the Hawera Borough show that the in- ( crease has been approximately 100 per 'cent in five years, this association ; urges on the Government the necesI sity for including in the proposed i legislation some provision for the | suspension of any valuation which may be found to be oppressive, until conditions are more stabilised and a fair and equitable valuation'can be arrived .'at.''
