DAIRY FARMERS' UNION.
Sir. Fear, Dominion organiser for, . the N.Z.. Dairy Farmers'VUnion, ad-, ; dressed a meeting at Normanby on' Thursday last, when there was a fair I attendance. Mr. B. C. Gibßon pre- j'. sided. , ' Mr. Fear dealt aS length with the' aims of the union, which were mainly | to secure benefit for th^dairy farmer. I He also strongly advocated a farmers' I bank. Mr. Fear stated that he had lately been in the Manawatu district, where upwards of 30 branches had been established, farmers taking the i matter up enthusiastically. The speatser explained! that there was no. antagonism against the Farmers' Union,! and arrangements had been made" to; link up with that body. , j On the motion of Messrs. F. Riddle' and E. S. Bennett Jit was decided to! iorm a "branch of the union, and the' following ; officers were appointed : i President, Mr. E. S. Bennett; committee, Messrs B. O. Gibson, F. Riddle, W. Gane, Glentworth, and W. J. Laurent; secretary, Mr. G. H. Mills. A'vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Fear for his able address, and a further meeting will be "held in the near future. t MR. ASTBURY'S MEETING. Mr. D. L. A. Astbury, official Lib-! eral-Latjour candidate for Egmont, ad-1 dressed/the electors in the Town Hall on \ Tuesday, when unfortunnately, owing to the very wet night, there" was only a moderate attendance. Mr. C. t Coad, chairman of the Town Board, presided. Mr. Astbury spoke for about one *nd a half hours, ai^d criticised the Reform ' Government, producing evidence in support of his statements. The main points of h?s address have already appeared in the Star, one notable feature b«ing that ntT reference whatever was made r %o his opponent, Mr. "Haw~ ken. The address, which was well delivered* was attentively listened to, and at the conclusion the speake!n?e>ceiVed a vote of -Ehaftks and confidence, on the motion of Messrs. Burgon and Mitchell. After the meeting a number stayoa behind, and a committee was formed to work in Mr. Astbury's interests. A meetjng of lady supporters will fee called at a later date. EUCHRE AND DANCE. Reference to the advertising columiifc will show that the Eltham Catholics are holding a card party and dance in the Town Hall on Friday night. The proceeds are in aid of tha farmers' candidate, Miss Kelly, of jS/unter" road. A good attendance and good time are assured.
