DRUIDS' LODGE.
CHILDREN'S PLAIN AND FANCY DRESS BALL. (Contributed.) The. Hawera'Druids' children's ball, held in th© Foresters' Hall on Monday! was to ail appearances a huge success! Most of the -children attended in fancy dress, and the adults responsible did their utmost to give them a right ]olly good time. Miss Ponsford ably performed the duties ojf pianist, and when the Druids' parade took place, the children being led by seven hoary-headed aii^l bewhiskered old gentlemen.1 in gowns, the task of deciding the winners was a hard one fpr the judge, Mrs. Douglas. However, they were finally singled out,, and prizes awarded as follows:—First, girls, Miss Phyllis Spooner, a tiny little tot from Awatuna ("Black'Cat s'); first, boys, Spenoei Anderson ("English Gentleman"), whilst Miss Mcßeth ran a very close second for girls as '"'Superstition" and Ron Vinton secured second for boys as a wee "Sanely Scot?.' Following fnis a special prize was handed in at the door, to be awarded to Miss Brenda Perica, and thanks are hereby expressed to the unknown donors. After the children had partaken of supper and departed for home, the adults remaining indulged in a social and dance, songs being rendered in fine style by Mrs. Dryman, Misses Moxhay, Yorke, and Mr. J. Sturrock, their items being no small part of the evening's enjoyment. Great praise is due to the willing band of ladies who supplied the supper, performing all the work in connection therewith in a highly commendable manner, and it is to bo"hoped that this is but - the forerunner of many more such pleasant functions.
