SEAMAN DROWNED.

WHANGAREI, Oct. 10. Berrand Knip, aged 24,. single, with no known relatives in New Zealand, and a member of the crew of the scow Belwyn, was drowned at Whangarei beads. He was taking a kedge anchor shorewards in a dinghy, and, when heading the anchor overboard, one fluke caught the gunwale and upset the dinghy, Knip vainly tried to swim to the scour.- The body has not been recovered.
