JERSEY BULLS.

SALE AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

A striking feature of the third annual sale of pedigree bulls of the North Taranaki Jersey Breeders' Association, which was held at the Taranaki A. and P. Society's show grounds at Wa& wakaiho yesterday, was the marked falling off in prices as eomparecl with, those ruling at last year's sale (reports the News). A total of 87 beasts were catalogued for yesterday's safe, but only 81 were put under the hammer. Of these 14 were passed in, a few without realising any bid, the total proceeds for the balance being 1279 guineas, as against just under 5000 guineas for the 88 lots disposed of last year. For the 67 sales yesterday the average price was £22 2s 9d, a most noticeable falling off on last year's average of £59 5s per head.

The condition of the stock offered yesterday was, if anything, a little better than it was last year, and the falling off of prices was no doubt due to the great number of bulls which are to oe disposed of to-day and at the Stratford and Kaponga fairs, where the entries are very large. The highest price was obtained for Mr. E. Griffiths' Raleigh's Leader, which fell to Mr. C. H. Weston for 145 guineas. Sired by Leader of Lynn, with the imported Cidaline as dam, the youngster has a pedigree of animals that have been champions in Jersey. He is conspicuous in all the points which go to make a really good Jersey bull. The next highest price was realised for Mr. J. S. Jones' Silverley's Master, by Maori Ruler out of Silverley's Duchess, which went to Mr. J. Polletti, of Bell Block, for 60 guineas. The only other animal topping the fifty mark was Mr. H. S. Sampson's *$Voodland's Stylish Sultan (Bright Sultan—Stylish' Lass), which found a buyer in Mr. J. B. Marsh, Oakura, at 59 guineas. A big proportion of the offering was of yearling bulls, which were disposed of at prices ranging from five to 40 guineas, the vast majority ranging about the "teens."

The sale was in the hands of Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., and; the arrangements for inspecting and selling the animals were well carried out. Mr. K. Kirk wielded the hammer. The attendance of buyers was not very.Jarge, Taut was representative, sales being made to buyers from Palmerston North up to the" Thames. A welcome was extended to Mr. H. B. Lepper, president of the New Plymouth Jersey Breeders' Club.
