The Eltham Dairy Company's April supply was as follows: 51841b cream, 4,096,6331b milk, 186,751.141b butterfat, the increase in butter-fat over the corresponding month last year being 63,6861b. The following is a comparison with last season's supply up to April 30, the figures for the current son being shown in brackets: Milk, 45,066,8211b (57,457,4641b), increase 12,390,6431b; cream, 58,1951b (54,1051b), decrease 40901b; butter-fat, 1,761,4081b (2,267,9781b), increase 506,5701b.

At Lyttelton there are approximately 137,000' sacks (490,000 bushels) of wheat stared at un average price o.f 5s 6d per bushel. This would mean the distribution of about £125,000 to Canterbury farmers. Unfortunately, however, about two-nfths of this quantity is not worth the figure stated, and just what to do with the greater part of it is the problem that growers have to face—whether to sell it as fowl feed or hold on in the hope that it will "come back" and secure milling values. The sight of tier upon tier of sacks is quite impressive.

After standing for two hours during tho morning in the course of his trial at the Palmerston Supreme Court on Wednesday (states the Daily Times), George Dunn made a request through his counsel in the afternoon for permission to sit down. "Certainly," replied His Honor Mr. Justice Hosking. "I always allow a prisoner to sit down after he has pleaded; that is in Courts where accommodation is provided. In some there, is .none." As the Palmerston North Courthouse is not quite as comfortless as the latter kind, Dunn seated himself immediately. A point of interest to many local shopkeepers arises in connection with the celebration of the Soveriegn's birthday, which in, this year falls upon a Saturday (states the Poverty Bay Herald). Some trades, notably the soft goods, are governed by awards which specify the King's Birthday as a. holiday, and the shops governed by such awards must therefore allow a day off I to their employees. Sub-section 3 section 31. of the Shops and Offices Act deals with this point by allowing shopkeepers affected to select any other night in the same week on which to remain open in the evening. ■ i At the monthly meeting of the Eltham County Council on Saturday, Cr.J Carter referred to a nasty accident which had occurred at the "junction of the Hunter and Eltham Roads, and asked what was the position in regard to compelling residents to cut hedges at the corners of roads. The chairman replied that a landholder had to keep \ all such hedges cut for two chains on either side of the corner, and the her"ht! had to be kept at 4ft. 6in. After some further discussion a resolution was passed to the effect that all persons not having complied-with- orders to cut' hedges would be prosecuted.
