HOCKET.
HAWERA A v. HAWERA TECH-
NICAL SCHOOL,
The hockey season opening took place on Saturday, when the local teams met in a friendly game at the Park. As was expected, the Hawera. A team had the upper hand, of the game right through, winnirfg by 10 goals to 1. Despite fthe ma-rgSn, play .was very interesting and some good stick work was indulged in by both teams. The1 A team showed that their training was responsible for the result, as the Technical girls showed little combination, and were inclined to run out of their positions, and thereby spoilt many passes, which otherwise would have proved fruitful. The Technical girls show great promise for the present season, and with a little coaching will be a hard proposition for some of the Taranaki ladies',teams to beat. Hawera A have taken/hockey seriously this season, and have been in training for some time now for the annual tournament on June 3, and they commenced the season by a good win, showing sound defence, good comVlnntion in the forward line, and they possess some firstclass players. Goals were scored for Hawera A by Miss D. Stone (5), Miss ( Mullingar (5), and for Technical School by Miss Oakley. The game was well/controlled by Messrs Catran and Renwick. . Mr Pascoe has offered to assist the Technical School team-in their trainine:* and with his abler assistance the younger girls should improve before the' season has advanced very far.
