MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ( There were ten householders present i at the meeting held here on Monday I night. Mr. H. Duckett was voted to ! the chair. The balance sheet, which' showed a credit balance of £19 7s 8d | as at February 28 was read and adopt- I cd. A circular letter was read from ! the New Zealand Educational ) drawing attention to the need of the ' efficient staffing of schools, and that better accommodation should be pro- v vided to avoid overcrowding of the s schools, and also pointing out that- the | stinting of education was poor economy. ! The circular also urged householders ' at their annual meetings to pass some form of resolution supporting its views, ' and that a. copy of such resolution be forwarded to the office of the institute, and also published in the press. It was decided to support the views of the institute, and the following resolution was passed: "That this meeting | of householders strongly supports the ' views contained in the circular of the New Zealand Educational Institute, and agree that the stinting of education is poor economy, and would urge the importance of the efficient staffing of ! schools, drawing special attention to the need of the more efficient staffing of the back country schools, and considers that the overcrowding of schools should be remedied." The chairman here called for nominations for the five seats on the committee. The following nine persons were nominated : Messrs L. W. Johns, R. Southee, R. Hartley, ' W. H. Walker, H. C. Duckett, H. Wills, T. Haworth, L. Parsons, J. Bickford. After a ballot was taken the following were declared elected "• j Messrs L. W. Johns, R. Southee, R. ' Hartley, W. H. Walker, and H. C. Duckett. At a later meeting of the committee Mr. H. C. Duckett was reanpointed chairman and secretary. The chairman with Mr. R. Southee were authorised to sign cheques operating on the committee's account.
