MEREMERE

On Anzac. Day, in the presence of a large gathering, beautiful wreaths were laid Oft the soldiers' memorial by the school children. The wreaths were in remembrance of the valiant soldiers and sailors and the immortal dead. A laurel wreath bearing the name Anzae was brought by the Women's National Reserve. The service of commemoration, which should have been held in the open, had to be held in the school. It was impressively conducted by Mr. D. J. Williams, and consisted of a hymn, prayer, psalm, and an address. The wreaths were made by the school children under the direction of Mrs. Antony, and the memorial was photographed. The memorial stone, a very fine piece of work, which has lately been completed, is to be unveiled by Mr O. Hawken, M.P., on Tuesday, May 2, at 2.30 p.m. The Meremere people invite all soldiers, with their relatives and friends to be present. A special invitation is extended to the relatives of the fallen.
