GOLF.
The season just commenced looks very promising, and has been opened with much enthusiasm. Members are very keen to get on once more with their popular winter game. Summer golf is good and serves a very ueefui purpose in keeping the course onen and makingplayers practice, but winter is the time " mm keenest enthusiasm is shown. The ladies had a very satisfactory an-: nual meeting on Thursday, and have bright prospects for the coming season Mrs X, McLean, one of the best players and best sports the club has ever had was elected captain. It is a popular appointment, for Mrs McLean has been I besides a most energetic and enternris-; secretary. The Taranaki championship meeting at JVew Plymouth is one of the most; popular Easter events in the local golf world, and draws entries from all parts of the North Island. A team from Ha- ' wera always goes to New Plymouth, and any visiting players can always be as- . sured of a pleasant time. The pro-' gramme, a copy of which has just reach- I ed us, shows that the championship commences on Saturday, April 15. and concludes oti Tuesday, April 18. There arein addition, a number of other com-; petitions, bo«ev handicaps, medal handicaps, four-ball matches, and continuous putting competitions. Entries will close on Monday, April 10. with the sec- ; retary, Mr J. Austin. Box 141, New | Plymouth. The committee hone to see | a number of nLayers from this district j to represent their various clubs. Mr W. C. Weston. well-known in Hawera. is club captain of the New Plymouth Club this year.
