RACING PERMITS
COMMISSION'S .REPORT.:
(By Telegraph—Special to Stair.) WELLINGTON, 0ct.17. The Government expects to give the House an opportunity of discussing racing permits at the end of this week. Consequently it will take the; I^acing Commission report x and Order-in-Council authorising the usual number of permits for the coming season immediately the House resumes on Tuesday, thus giving ample notice'to the interested parties to prepare for the ' debate. Opinion has not settled into definite lines regarding the fate of the recommendations, as the matter is viewed from so many angles. It is i admitted by most members that there ■ are good points about the Commission's :report^ but whether these can*be made operative in the face of strong opposition to the increasing total number of permits iB still Vn doubt. The
Government would not refer the matter to a select committee because it is felt that nothing short of actual divisions in the House can settle it.
