• —4 ; ■' LABOUR DAY ARRANGEMENTS. The Queen Carnival Committee's ad-. vertisement in this issue/ setting forth their programme for Labour Bay, should be interesting to readers. Ex« , tensive arrangements are being made, i and no effort will be spared by the committee to satisfy their patrons. i Proceedings will begin with a huge procession, in which each of the candi- ! dates' committees will play a promin- , ent part. The Maoris, too, have prot mised to take part in this in their usual enthusiastic way. Then further it is hoped the tradespeople of the town will take part by entering tableaux, decorated vehicles, advertiseI merits or displays of any kind. It is anticipated that many residents from the surrounding districts will b8 in town on that day. Arrangements have bene made with the Citizens' Band and the Hawera Fire Brigade to take part in the procession, and in all probability the Eltham Pipe Band will be there also. It is expected that the lodges of the town 'will-turn out in good force for the occasion, that the sporting bodies also will be there in' large numbers, and that the schools wUI be well represented. Then tho*» wno do not belong to any of these classes are expected to join in with their decorated wheelbarrows, go-carto, scooters, motor cars and vehicles of . every description from any district..ln addition to this persons wearing masks, grotesque figures, comedians, clowns, minstrel troupes, and jazz bands will be heartily welcomed into the ranks. The route of the procession will be advertised later. Three' 1 goo<J prizes will be given for the best fancy dresses inthe procession. At the Park amusemens and competitions are being arranged for both young and old. A baby show is also provided for, and it is hoped to secure the services of one of the Plunket nurses as judge. This show is open to all babies, whether Plunket or otherwise, from any dis- , trict. All babies on the ground will be eligible. Good prizes are offered. Various stalls and tents are being pro- • ed, (? r the day- The Women^s National Reserve have kindly undertaken to look after the refreshments. The produce stall is also in good hands. The concert and side shows tent will prove a source of great attraction. A rest tent is also arranged for ladies. The committee are anxious that all present shall enjoy themselves, consequently they are providing for an abundance of everything but dull moments. i
