" Except for the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Minister of Public Works there seemed'to be no-friends of the Motor; Bill when.it was debited on the second reading last night, this - stage being adopted only to secure a fuller ventilation before the special committee* A strong case against allocat- * . ing all revenue to arterial roads was presented by Mr. Masters, who based his remarks on Taranaki conditions. He pointed, out that there* are 2009 motors in the Hawera county, and their owners would have to pay V tax for th» construction, of roads in other district* though they had already rated themselves up to as much as ten shillings -j per acre to provide good roade fof^ themselves. With this heavy .burden the Government now proposea to come along with "another tax for roads they never used. ,
