MANAIA CLUB'S ANNUAL

MEETING

(From Our Own Car respondent.) The annual meeting of the Manaia Cricket Club was held in Mr. A. 11. Christie's office on Saturday. There was a large attendance of members. The secretary read the minutes, balance sheet, and report of the previous year, I which, on the motion of Mr. Judd, seconded by Mr. McKay, was adopted. The annual report stated:—The club continued the {season under favourable conditions in regard to membership, no less than 28 subscribing, including honlorary members. The arranged fixtures | for the club numbered 12, eight being, j won, three lost, and, owing to the latef ness of the season, ojie match was un- ' finished. The Eltham Club won the jSouth Taranaki championßhip, Manaia being one point behind runner-up. Some 'of the matches were lost by a small margin and with more practice during the coming season, even better results ! could be looked for. "Dr. Maunsell. of ■ our club, won the batting average for 1 South Taranaki with the fine average i of 42.6 run& per innings, and Messrs A. I Hughes, H. Hughes, and Bairstow filled j fourth, fifth, and sixth places respectively in the bowling averages. , On ' October 20 last a social and dance was held by members of the club in the Town Hall,, which proved a success both J socially and financially. £14 Is being cleared after payinjr all expenses. The ' afternoon tea so kindly arranged for by Mesdames Cosgrove and Hughes was greatly appreciated by members of the various teams. To those ladies we convey oisr hearty thanks, .1130 to the Press, viz., the Hawera Star and Waimate Witness, for the generous manner in which they published teams and reported matches, etc. Owing to the club having to procure new matting and the high cost of material, we did not finish up with a large credit balance, but it is hoped, with the assets in material, that the coming season' will show some good results and prove a successful one for the club.
