NO LIGHTS. I Herbert Cane was charged with having driven a horse and cart along a street within the borough after sunset without a light. He was fined 20s and ! costs. j VARIATION OF ORDER. ! An application for the variation of an order against H. Wheelhouse, who : had been sentenced to imprisonment for failing to comply with a maintenance ' order, was granted on the application of Mr. O'Dea. It was stated that the man would be better if released so that he could earn something for' his wife and children. BY DEFAULT. Judgment was given for plaintiff, with costs, in each of the following undefended cases: N.Z. Loan Company v. !J. Jackson, claim for £9 13s; C. M. Hamlin v. Wi Tamata, claim £10; B. R. Long v. Hapi Wo, claim £10; N.Z. Loan Company v. J. H. Burgess, claim i'or £52 "2s od; Gray and "Bailey v J. R. Slight, claim for £10 10s; Gillanders v. Martini, claim £24 13s; J. Chambers and Son v. C. Hill, claim £5 14s; A. de Chateau (trading under the name of School of Art) v. J. Jackson claim for £9 9s; C. E. Brooke v. J. Heal, claim for £17 11s ; same v. J. Hodges, claim for £1 ss; dement A. Penfold v. J. Jackson, claim for £2 11s; same v. W. Hunwick, claim for £11 Is 4d. JFDGMENT SUMMONS. The Hospital Board applied for an order against T. W. J. Howell on a judgment summons for £14 10s. The judgment debtor did not appear and an order was made for payment forthwith, in default seven days' imprisonment. In the case Hospital Board v. Simon Pini, a claim for* £28 6s, defendant, who had .not filed notice of defence, appeared in court and said that the debt was contracted by his wife, from whom he was later separated and who had since died. It was stated by Mr. Taylor that defendant had only been married according to native custom,, and it' was arguable whether he was liable for the debt. Judgment .was given for the amount claimed, with costs. Defendant was informed that if he cared to go to a solicitor the case could be reopened, provided notice was given within a fortnight.
