ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The young man George W. James., who was arrested on Saturday, was-, brought up before Messrs H. G. Carman and E. Parrott, J.P.s, yesterday, and charged- with stealing one Stetson hat and eight silk handkerchiefs, of a total value of £6, the property of Hallenstein Bros. Accused pleaded gnilty, and elected to be summarily dealt with. Constable Townsend explained the eircumsta'nces, and stated that James was drunk at the time. There was nothing known against the man previously. The accused was convicted and fined £3, in default 14 days' imprisonment. An order for restitution of the goods was made.
