NEW PLYMOUTH.
INCREASE OF OVER 30 PER CENT. The counting of the population of " New Plymouth" was completed yesterday afternoon, and shows that the inhabitants of the borough number 11,391 an increase of 2687 over the 1916 figures. ' The details are:

Males 5577 4091 1486 Females ..'....... 5814 4613 1201 • These, figures represent an increase? of 30.8 per cent, jn the last five years, ■and sho.w that in that time New Ply-. mouth has .expanded at a much greaterrate than such other North IslanH: centres as Palmerston North and'! Napier. The percentage increase atPalmerston North is 22, while at Napierit is 13. In other words, while New Plymouth has still a smaller population than these centres, it is growingmore rapidly. Auckland, which is regarded as one of the most progressivecentres of the Dominion, will 3 it i&reported, show a percentage increase of 17£ per cent.
