HALL ANNUAL MEETING. sThe hall was packed/ last evening^ when the annual meeting of residents--was held for the Ipurpose of electing: a hall committee for the ensuing year.. Keen interest was taken in tlTe prb--ceedings. Hall matters had been keenly discussed among residents of thedistrict, and in view of this interest, the attendance was the largest that-, has ever been at 'an. annual meeting. The chairman (Mr. W. A. Guy) readY the report and balance-sheet, the year's, work showing a credit of £5, and asked for open and free discussion. Theposition, was, however, shown to be so good that the report and balance-sheet, were, passed unanimously. On vacating the chair Mr Guy said • that' he ■ wa/s retiring from hall work, and he would like, in justice to Jiim--self and the committees that he had' been associated with during the past, eight years as chairman, to give the meeting a rievew of hall work done during that time. \ Eight years ago thehall was jburdened with a debt of £60, also more accommodation and bet-v ter lighting were badly heeded He ■was pleased to say that the debt'was. wiped off, and in addition the necessary improvements and • up-to-date-lightmg system \ was ' installed. Thehall now jstood free, and had also .as credit balance to go on with, fijewished, to thank the old 'committee forthe help they had t given during hieterm as chairman. ' Mr T. Allan, who then took thechair, said that he wished to move a. hearty vote of thanks to Mr Guy and tfee > outgoing coWiittee, the excellent, position of the hall being due to their untiring efforts, and he felt sure he was expressing the' sentiments of themeeting at the loss of. two .valuablemembers of the hall committee, Messrs. Guy and Jas. O'Sullivan, who both declined nomination. '= The chairman then called for nominations for the new committee, and thefollowing were proposed: Messrs L. Preece, Willis, Wilson, A. Guy, junr., G. Harrison, H. AVright, McCallum,. Caldefe-, O. Bootten, Downey, Whitaker,. H. Hdrrington, N, Hooker, Rankin, and F. Nicholas. In the ballot that, w.ns taken the first nine were elected. At the committee meeting held after-- ; wards, Mr G. Wilson was elected.' chairman, and Mr L. Preece secretary and treasurer.
