PATEA LICENSING COMMITTEE

ADJOURNED MEETING

At the adjourned meeting of the Patea Licensing Committee,, held an the Ha,wera Courthouse to-day, the application for a renewal of the licence for the Kakaramea Hotel, which had been adjourned for a fortnight, was considered. Evidence was called by Mt ODea who appeared for the applicant, to show that the house had been satisfactorily conducted since the presenjt licensee took possession, and a statement -favorable to the general conduct of the house, and signed by nearly 200 people was put in. The chairman (Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) pointed out that the evidence given and the statement signed by a number of people did not alter the fact that after hours trading had been going on.

Mr ODea thought that a warning would have the effect the committee desired.

The application was adjourned for six months, the Magistrate po'njfcing out that if up to that time the house is saisfactoriry conducted by Mr McDonnell, the committee would favorably consider granting a renewal of the. license. At the same t*me they would not promise a renewal. Mr ODea was given permission to have the application brought up at the next quarterly meeting of the committee, if he so desired.
