ELTHAM RACING CLUB.

INAUGURAL MEETING

The newly-formed Eltham Racing Ciuo commenced its inaugural meeting on the Egmont Club's course to-cLay, and, despite the absence of totalisator facilities, there was a good attendance of the public. Though the sky was overcast, the weather was better than that which prevailed on the preceding two days, the high wind having dropped, and the slight rain that fell in the early morning fortunately held off. The helas were large in each event, horseowners from all parts being represented in an endeavor to give the club a "boost" along.

The club's secretary, Mr W. J. Tristram, ably filled the position, and the administration was first class. Mr R. P. Morrissey acted as honorary judge, and his decisions were given accurately and with despatch. Mr Alf. W. Morse officiated at the barrier, and he got his fields away on even terms at each attempt. All the other officials worked hard to ensure the success of the meeting, and the club is to be°congratulated on having such a willing body of workers, all determined to he]p the club to the forefront, and if favored with <*& permit next year the club should soon become a welcome addition to the sporting institutions of Taranaki.

The Eltham Pipe Band played several selections during the course of the day. While doing his preliminary in the Maiden Handicap, Karere bolted once round and threw his'rider (Manson), who was badly shaken, but was able to walk in. -The horse was brought back to the birdcage, and Trask took the mount," carrying 201b overweight. The horse again bolted, but Trask got control and got his mount back to the post, and though he got away with the others, he was never prominent, being second last throughout the journey. Results:
