THE MORGUE
BOROUGH COUNCIL AND HOSPITAL BOARD.
The matter of attending to cases in ihe Hospital morgue cropped up at last night's meeting of the Hawera Borough Council, when the Mayor (Mr E. Dixon) replied to some remarks of the chairman of the Board. A letter ■was received from the secretary of the Board, stating that the Board did not quite understand the position, and that Messrs C J. Hawken and R. J. Linn had been deputed to wait on the Council. "In my conversation with the chairman of the Board at the Eltham conference," said" the Mayor, L made the suggestion that instead or the borough and the county going to the expense of erecting a morgue it would be far better for the borough and the county to pay sufficient money to give any of the hospital staff double pay for attending to any cases that •might come into the morgue. The chairman replied: 'A capital suggestion.' I said I will bring the matter before the Council, which I did, and a recommendation was sent, to the Hospital Board. If we pay any of the employees of the hospital double pay. and more than double pay if necessary, this would, I am sure, be satisfactory. The matter then closed.
