TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE

A meeting of the Hawera Technical High School Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs Bone (chairman), Lynskey, Eaves, Tait Sage, and Cumming. Apologies for absence were received ffom Messrs Hooker and Hawken.

Correspondence was received .from the Education Board stating that it was making every effort to facilitate the erection of the Technical High School. building as early as possible, and also forwarding plans of the proposed building.; The Board also advised that it was decided to again renew the application for a grant for the apparatus for the engineering class. The plans were considered at length, and it was decided to suggest certain alterations to the Board, chiefly in the direction of enlarging the engineering _ workshop and providing for an electrical mechanical laboratory; also that an extra class room would be necessary, and that the domestic science room should be large enough to hold, in addition to the cookery benches, a gallery of desks for lecture purposes.

The principal (Mr A. Gray) reported, inter alia: The school breaks up for the vacation on 29th inst., and resumes on Tuesday, September 16. The results of the term examination just concluded will be conveyed to parents on the report cards in the usual way. The train service being still interrupted, it is impossible to form an accurate estimate of the probable number of students when affairs return to normal. I have to thank Mr Hopkirk for kindly allowing the boys to visit his foundry, and Messrs Bennett and Sutton for the loan of various pieces of apparatus. Mrs Matier has; been appointed to the staff of the sch<*ol on the commercial side, and will take up her duties immediately after the holidays.

On the motion of Messrs Lynskey and Cumming, it was resolved that the matter of conveying students to the school be left in the hands of the chairman, Mr Sage, and the principal to arrange, with.power to act.

Mr Sage moved that the Board be requested to institute the necessary proceedings in connection with the election of a Technical Committee. Mr Lynskey seconded, and the motion was carried.
