On Friday, August 15, a most sue- , ceasful and enjoyable children's plain and fancy dress ball was held in the hall, which was tastefully decorated' with flags and greenery. When the | children in their fancy dresses arrived i the scene was brilliant. Mr T. Maindonald acted as chairman in his usual genial manner, Mrs Mache generously supplied the dance music, while Mr C. Mamdonald ably carried out the duties of M.C. The ball opened with the j Grand March, led by two tiny tots in | Dutch costume (Lois W rills and Jimmie | Lines). Mr Burroughs piped for the marching, and also for the Highland schottische danced by two lassies in kilts (Carrie Lines and Jean McCandlish). The pleasure of both children and grown-ups was greatly added to by the presence of Topsy and Uncle Sam (of peace fame), who worked untiringly to amuse -all and. sundry. The children danced till about 11 p.m., when an excellent supper was handed round, and then the adults took the floor. Prizes for the best fancy dresses were won by Lily Sanne (Japanese), Douglas Hollard (Pierrot), Flora McCandlish (Starlight Fairy), and R. Jackson (Uncle Sam). Those in fancy dress were: Girls—E. Smith (Gipsy), E. Lines (Japanese), E. Gardiner (Fortune Teller), M. Guest (Butterfly). C. Lines (Scotch Lassie), F. McCandlish (Starlight Fairy). J. McCandlish (Scotch Lassie), V. Mellow (Flower Girl), L. Wills (Dutch Girl), O. Gardiner (Flower Girl), R. Jones (Red Cross Nurse). B. Macfie (Red Cross i Nurse), M. Mnindonald (Red Riding [ Hood). Dulcie Mellow (Fairy), M. Mellow (Mount Egmont), L. Gnent (Miss Muffet), L. Jackson (Daffodil), L. Snnue (Japanese), Annie Rowell (Flower Girl), M. Gardiner (Miss Muffet). Ruby Jackson (Red Cross Nurse), B. San no (Tassel).
