KAPONGA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The Catholic ball which was held here on Thursday night was not >so largely attended as usual, but all the same a most enjoyable time was spent by all. About 70 couples took the floor (which was in capital order), and kept time to McGarty'« orchestra mitil the early hours of the morning. The musk- supplied by the above company was excellent and appropriate. The sta^e looked nice and -snug with its little table of flowers and easy chains. The supper room was also gay with spring flowers and fancy paper, and the fact that the supper Avas in the capable hands of the ladies' committee assured the success of that part of the programme. Many friends of Mr and Mrs M. Power met at the latter'^ residence to welcome home their son, Private Martin Power, on Thursday evening. There were 70 or 80 present, and the Rev. Father Arkwright had charge, of the proceedings. The usual round of toasts Avere honored and responded to in royal fashion. All present agreed they had had a jolly good time. Mr Power went to Auckland to meet his son, who had not had too rosy a time during his absence, having put in the greater part of his time in hospital in England. The lad was very pleased to get home among his own people, and indeed he should be proud of the reception he got on his arrival at the old home.
