The Maiiaia Town Board had a .special meeting on Thursday night last re water and drainage for Manama. Piesent —Messi;s J. J. Meldon (ohainnan), laylor, Gh;rist;e, Bridge and Nie-Lson. The chairman explained that the meeting had been called to get a modified plan for a- water and drainage ■sohtnie. Mr .Sixrnocjv, engineer sai-] he liad not much to say about the new .scheme, and said that they could not ■iwt purity of water under five miles J rom Ala.na.ia town, and it was no good recommending a town to go in To r a. water supply if it was not sanitary. FARMERS' UNION

rue monthly meeting of the Manaia sr?5 r?? eh of N-Z- Farmers' Union was held on Saturday night, August 2. The president (Mr E. Betts) presided over a good attendance of mem hers A vote of sympathy and condolence was passed to Mr Lambie, of Pihama find family in their recent sad bereavement. The secretary was instructed to communicate with Mr Deem, of the Fields Division, with a view of getting him.to deliver an address on root crops at an early date. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to tne ladies and others who assisted at the late social, alw> to Mr Buckeridge. One new member was elected.

The Oddfellows intend hold;no- a grand social and dance on Wednesday, August 13th, in Manaia Town .Hai«. A very strong committee has been formed, and no doubt every detail will be in perfect order " The social this year promises to eclipse all previous socials, and the public will he well catered for.
