PATEA FREEZING COMPANY.

Whi3H shareholders in ( the Patea. Farmeis' Co-op. Frsezmg Company come to their next annual meeting they vail be afforded an opportunity ot looking over their works and having fully explained to them the extensive im- ' provements made during the past year, ] and those in coarse of construction. In the short space of time that has elapsed since their last annual meeting, they will scarcely recognise the locality. They will find large cool stores occupy- , ing the ones familiar roadway tihat led! them round to the secretary's office; ! they will notice, uossibly, that where the office stood last year, some mortar —the remains of the office strong l.ooir. —is being removed i*o permit of large ■ extensions to the killing departmentextensions that will enable the works to double their daily killing capacity. They will pass on to the canning works, and in the extensions and improvements made here scarcely recognise the cani.ing department of last yejrr. It will be kodnted^out to tkem that the ground floor area of the fellmongery.is being doubled by absorbing all the space now occupied by the wool drying and sorting department, and a large concrete ( building, no^y in course of construction, : will be shown them, wherein all the wool business will shortly be conducted. They will then have poirffeed cut to them i where a chimney stack 120 ft high is about to be erected. This is a necessary part of a new Babcock and Willcox boiler that.is about set up, and which is provided with an automatic stoker and Green fuel economizer. The latter is a tubular boiler wherein the temperature of the water for the main boiler is considerably raised by the otherwise waste heat that goes up tho chimney. After being conducted (through the chemical manure works, visitors will r.ext sea the Oleo. department, wherein tallow will be refilled into an article of considerable commercial value. A walk through the long corridor with numerous cool stores on either side, will bring visitors to the site of the new engineroom. This, when completed, will be - double the size of vhe existing one, and _._"I -will house- a 280-h.p;:" suction gas ; engine direct-coupled to a ]50 Irillowatt dynamo to provide additional electricalI'power required.throughout the works. There will also be a gas engine direct-coupled to a 110-ton freezer. Shareholders -will now begin to realise ho,v rapidly the works ha^o grown and are continually growing; they will begin to realise, too, what a great .asset they are to vSouth Taranakl. They will not- then be lacking in showing their appreciation of those few men, and particularly the. chairman, who, despite all obstacles, so rapidly developed the present works and shouldered very big financial responsibilities to enable this to be accomplished.
