HAWERA CLUB RESUSCITATED

A laigeh'-attended meeting of sporting enthusiasts was held in the Borough Chambers last evening, presided over by Mr J. G. Osborne, when it was unanimously decided to resuscitate the I-iawera Sports and Pastimes Ciub. me chairman explained that when the war broke out the club was a live institution, but it was then thought advisable to allow the club to die a natural death until after the cessation of hostilities. Peace having been proclaimed, several enthusiasts thought the time was opportune to resuscitate the club, which was a registered body. ■i*lr J. Gray was proposed as president,^ but he declined, and eventually Air J. G. Osborne was unanimously elected to the office. Messrs C. R. K. Cumming, J. R. Comgan, D. J. Goodwin, and J. Gray w eio elected vice-presidents. Mr W. V. Patterson was appointed secretary and treasurer. The following were appointed a committee: Messrs J. D. Wills, F W Stevens, W. T. Bailey, R. F. 'Page, R Mornssey, J. Goodwin, B. Kemp, .shepherd, D. Poynton, and P T Donnelly. The subscription was fixed at 10s 6d, the same as previously. A sub-committee was appointed to make the best arrangement* possible tor the use.of a room for the boys to practise in, and it was agreed that it be a recommendation to the committee to endeavor to hold a tournament in September. • . Mr R. Morrissey suggested widening the scope of the club, and considered it might be a good thing to inaugurate a Marathon race. Mr Shepherd, while agreeing that the suggestion was a good one, said it would be better to defer the holding of sucn a race until the summer time, when several evening runs could no doubt be arranged. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Boxing Council, asking that the club be made the governing body for Taranaki. Mr V. B. Stratton was appointed auditor of the club. It was resolved to circularise all those interested in the art, stating that it was intended to arrange for a tourney, and asking their co-opera-tion.
