EGMONT WANGANUI HUNT CLUB

■ ♦ rMEET AT MANAIA. The club had a very successful day at Mr Gamlin's place, Lower Glenn road, yesterday afternoon. Shortly after the "throw off" a hare was started near Mr Shanahan's homestead, and he immediately, made towards Mr Gamlin's. Doubling across an open paddock, he, headed towards the river, and followed along the high land right away to the sand-hill country, where he made his escape. This was an excellent ,run across good country: the jumping was good, and every horse took the fences well. After working back towards the homestead again the* huntsmen crossed to the river flats, vand a hare starting out of some gorse had a long start across the flats before the hounds got on the scent. He headed for the higher ground, and the hounds' were soon after pulled off. The last run of the day was through the sand-hill country, and this w;as also an excellent go, although no "kill" resulted, the high wind making it difficult for the hounds to keep the scent. Between thirty and forty horsemen followed, the hunt, and there were besides several motor cars, which followed along to the various vantage points as the spbrt was in progress. Quite a large assemblage, including a number of ladies, then made towards the homestead, where Mr and Mrs Gamlin had generously provided afternoon tea. This was thoroughly appreciated after the outing is. the bracing air, and Mr D. Crocker (Master) briefly thanked Mr and Mrs Gamlin for their kindness to the club and visitors. The day had provided excellent sport, there, was a larger attendance than usual, and just on thirty horses participated in the jumping, and there had been no spills. Three hearty cheers were then given for Mr Gamlin and his neighbors for allowing the club to hunt over their properties. Amongst the "straight goers" were noticed Miss Brown on Braemar, Mr D. Crocker (Master) on Mac, Huntsman Symes on Osprey, Whip Harvey on Mac, Messrs D. Luxton on Argo, H. Crocker on Simon, H. Calder on Colonel Paul, S. Pearce on Kakaramea, Bennett (Wanganui), Alex. Mitchell on Hassan, Paterson on Tofua, J. Dunn on Cobweb, H. Washer on Inaha, and several others. The next meet will be in Waverley on June 21, and the following on the 25th at Mrs Johnstone's, at Okaiawa.
