WHAKAMARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
WELCOME HOME. .The-welcome home social which was glVe? w P.T, ate F- Crocker and Corporal W. Milham on Wednesday last was a great success. There were present quite a lot of visitors from other centres. Dancing held sway until the small hours. At intervals during the evening Mr Ray Bishop fairly convulsed his audience with his comic songs. He is a great favorite here, and when he is in the district the committee are assured of a full house. Mrs Bishop also favored with a song, and received an enthusiastic encore. Mr R. Strong presided at the piano, were kindly played by Miss Scott and Messrs E. Scott and L. Hunwiek. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mr John Barkla. The ladies deserve a vote of thanks for the splendid supper they provided. On behalf of the settlers both the guests were presented with handsome wallets containing a sum of money. Mr J. R. Murch made the presentations, and ; conveyed to them on the settlers' behalf their sincerest wishes for their future welfare, and "their appreciation for the service they have rendered their King and country.
