(From Our Own Correspondent.),

WELCOME HOME.

[ One of the best social evenings ever ! held in the local hall took place^on FriI day last, when a very large number of guests assembled at the invitation of Mr and Mrs E. 0. Chiv.ers in honor of the home-com.ng of their son Frank. Early in the war Frank,, who at tho time was on the Napier, staff of Messrs J. J. Niven and Co., received an offer of a place in the British Navy,., a chance which was eagerly snapped. He was allotted to one of the patrol? boats, and rose to the position of. chief molar mechanic. Frank's boat was to. 3iav c taken part in tho attack on Zeebrugge, but was put out of action at the critical moment through the propeller fooilanotho tow rope. However, he was right in it at the attack on Ostend, and for his ' work upon tha t occasion \va a awarded tne JJ.fc.M. The evening, was spent in. dancing, games, and musical items and proved-most enjoyable, all present'joining m heartily. It was, in every sense a reunion, all the old families of the aistrict being represented. Congratulatory speeches were delivered by Mr A Lees and Mr R. Clement.. Mr Olivers suitably replied. At the call of those present Frank also briefly responded -and raised a laugh by his. brevity. He ■f?*.i ¥*£. had *n he«rd about the silent British Navy^ and he though* h& could JS* J d% b. e, tl% *han ,ke^' UP the traditions of the Navy, and Wold commence and conclude by thauWjng those present tor them hearty welcome. Mr and Mrs Ctavers proved themsedves adepts in the art .'of entertaining, and one of the most peasant gatherings Whiich it has been my lot to attend, broke, up abdut l a.m.\ by the singing of Auld Lane. Syne a*d the-National Anthem.
