N.Z. RHODES SCHOLAR, KILLED.

(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION ) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 5. News has been received here that Lieut. H. S. Richards, the New Zealand Rhodes Scholar for 1914, and the first Canterbury man to attain that honor, has been killed in action. Ho went Home in 1915, and passed the suspensions examinations, after which he joined the Essex Regiment of inj fantry, was wounded at the battle of the Somme, and spent thirteen months in hospital. On recovering he put in I a course of training at an aerodrome, and joined the Royal Flying Corps. He j returned to the front comparatively rej cently.
