HARBOR BOARDS CONFERENCE.

WELLINGTON, Aug. 1. The Harbor Boards-Conference passed a resolution deploring the unsympathetic attitude of the Railway Department towards harbor boards, which, was causing a loss of national efficiency,, owing to the lack of co-ordination between the sea and land transport services. The conference requested the Government to readjust th e policy of the Railway Department. A resolution* was also passed that further provision be made in the Harboro Act for theprotection of foreshores from pollution by drainage or the depositing of refuse. The executive of the association was appointed to confer with the Marine Department in revising the harbor regulations dealing with the explosives, inflammable oils and dangerous goods. A remit was carried that harbor boards be empowered to acquire water catchment areas or sink wells, with the rights of laying mains and the reticulation of pipes connecting the catchment, areas with the wharves.
