SENTENCE QUASHED.

AUCKLAND, May 14. | In the Supreme Court, Mr Justice i Cooper quashed the sentence of two months' imprisonment passed by Mr Frazer, S.M., on Walter Preston on February 8, on a charge that, being a bookmaker, he did bet on Takapuna course. The ground of appeal was that the conviction was against the weight of evidence. His Honor said, the case was highly suspicious, but the evidence had not established that degree of comparative certainty to have enabled him to hold that Preston actually did bet on the day in question.
