STRIKE AT JOHANNESBURG

A strike occurred at Johannesburg owing to the Town Council refusing to concede the demand of the engineers in municipal employ 162s weekly wage. The light and tram services were interrupted, the city being in partial darkness, and a large number of people unemployed. Subsequently the strikers consented to keep the light and water supplies at normal.
