SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS
BY TELEGRAPH —PKESS ASSOCIATION
AUCKLAND. July 11
Allegations regarding th.c postal service were made by the Rev. Howard Elliott in the course of a speech at a meeting of the Protestant Political Association to-night. He stated that there had been an attempt to stifle the meeting, alleging that it had revealed corruption in the postal service. Envelopes which had contained invitations to the meeting, had, he declared, been opened and the contents abstracted. He knew of letters so posted and delivered empty. Other letters posted in due time had not yet been delivered. The chairman (the Hey. Principal Garland) said that the charge made by Mr Elliott against the Post Office was most serious. He hoped that Mr Elliott was certain he could prove his statement.
Mr Elliott: Yes
The Chairman: I hope that the postmaster will hear what has been said here to-night, and that he will take proceedings against Mr Elliott, for we are not men if we can sit quieitly down here and believe that this is the condition in our Post Office, which we believe to be above svwpicion. He had received no notice. His notice was delivered to him on Tuesday.
