TE ROTI.

(From a Correspondent.)

A most successful social was held at our hall to farewell two of our most popular young men—Lance-Corporal ttydney Barrow and Private John Condon, who sail with the next reinforcements. The large number of friends \.^o attended from all parts of the district gave ample proof of the high esteem in which both soldiers were held. Lance-Corporal Barrow 'is one of our oldest settler's sons. Private Condon, although not so long resident j here, had made himself a great favorite. During the evening the Rev. Mr Dent, in a-few well chosen words, presented both soldiers with a purse of sovereigns from their many friends at Te Roti, wishing them^Qod-speed and ajsafe i*eturn, and rerhraded them that although they would be far from us they" would be constantly in our minds and our prayers. Lance-Cor-poral Barrow responded on behalf of his brother soldier and himself, saying they would do their best to uphold" the traditions of the British race. | Songs were contributed by Messrs I Wardell, Sager, and Wilkinson, extras being played by the Rev. Mr Dent and Mr Nodder. Hearty cheering and ex- | pressions of good luck to our depart- : ing guests brought the evening to a close.
