During the past week (says a Christchurch telegram) wholesale suppliers of benzine, petrol and kerosene have advanced prices by 6d per case, and this increase has been followed by a corresponding reflex 1 in many instances on retail values. This advance, it is understood, Avas decided on in view of the present uncertainty of supplies, owing to the shipping shortage, and also to the present high freight and overhead charges. The extent of the stocks held in the Dominion is indefinite, but there is every indication that suppliers are taking steps to conserve the quantities already available. Sales are being made only in limited quantities, many transactions being examined to see that ' purchasers are not accumulating supplies.
