WASHINGTON Oct. .6. High officials deny that America has taken, or intends taking, immediate steps in the direction of mediation regarding the war. They declare that the many rumors current to that effect are without foundation^
Mr Lloyd George's interview showed clearly that such a step would' be unwelcome. Meanwhile, developments are being watched for ari indication as to when peace proposals would be welcomed.
Some interest lias been caused by the announcement that Mr Ford has summoned the secretary of the Stockholm Conference to visit America; also in the notification that Count Bernstorff will pay a special visit to President Wilson on Monday. The new super-dreadnoughts will ( be 850 ft long, and have a 35,000 ft displacement, and a speed of between 32 and 35 knots an liour.. They are expected to cost twenty million dollar* each. ,
